Bangladeshi killed in BSF firing

KOLKATA: A Bangladeshi was killed by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel near the border in the Hili Thana area of West Bengal’s South Dinajpur district late on Monday night.

The BSF men fired at a group of alleged cattle-smugglers. This was followed by nearly 25 rounds of firing from across the border by the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), a senior BSF official of the Malda sector told The Hindu on Tuesday.

The BSF opened four rounds of fire when the men who were trying to cross the border into Bangladesh tried to snatch a rifle from a jawan, the official said.

One person was killed while four others managed to flee.
