City lad makes it to talent hunt show

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: City youngster Mohammed Irfan Ali, the lone contestant from South India to have made it to the final rounds of the popular TV show ‘Amul Star Voice of India’, rues lack of support from local viewers and cites it as a reason in talent from the city not making it big on talent hunt shows on national networks. Ali pointed out that while others had pitched in with campaigns to support contestants from their cities, those from the South failed to rally around for local contenders.

Since viewer inputs played a key role in deciding the final outcome, the local talent was failing to score high marks in the grand final, he said. An engineering graduate from M.J. College, the 22-year-old had trained in music with K. Ramachary and won several prizes in children’s rounds of ‘Close-Up Antakshari’ and ‘TVS Sa Re Ga Ma’.

In ‘Voice of India’, he has made it to ‘Bemisaal Barah’, the 12 finalists and the elimination rounds have just started.

“I request Hyderabadis to extend full support to my nomination and ensure that country’s voice is from the city,” he appealed in a chat with newspersons on Tuesday.

He was described as a contestant from Jaipur as that was the city where he participated in the audition rounds.

For the present show on Star, he made it to the final 12 having started with 95,000 aspirants. The show is telecast on Star Plus on Fridays and Saturdays at 10 p.m. and Irfan Ali can be supported through SMS VOI (space) 07 to 7827.

He can also be voted through the website - www.amulstarvoiceofindia.com of ‘ www.indya.com’, Airtel/Hutch/Spice subscribers can call 5057827 07 and landline users can vote on 1862424782707.
