Now PCR vans to assist traffic cops in checking violations

30 PCR vans – each comprising a traffic police officer-- began the exercise at 8 a.m. on Tuesday

Vans equipped with public announcement system to give directions to commuters to follow rules


NEW DELHI: Police Control Room vans have been roped in to assist the Traffic police in conducting special patrolling drives to detect traffic violations, especially by Blueline buses, along 30 major stretches across the Capital.

According to the police, 30 PCR vans – each comprising a traffic police officer of the sub-inspector or assistant sub-inspector rank -- began the exercise at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. The teams will conduct patrolling from 8 a.m. to 12 noon and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The timings may vary depending on the local situation.

The policemen involved have been instructed to check various violations by Bluelines, like plying beyond the speed limit of 40 km per hour, not adhering to the bus-lane, not picking up or dropping passengers at bus stops and racing with other vehicles and overtaking.

The vans are equipped with public announcement equipment to give directions to commuters to properly follow traffic rules. While the teams would also check wrong parking and encroachment on roads, the policemen have been instructed to record violations by other vehicles and prosecute them.

Some of the selected traffic corridors are Outer CP and Barakhamba Road, Tolstoy Marg to Janpath Road; Talkatora roundabout to ‘C’ Hexagon; ‘C’ Hexagon, Tilak Marg to ‘W’ Point; ‘C’ Hexagon to Aurobindo Chowk (Shahjahan Road and Prithviraj Road); RML roundabout to Dhaula Kuan ; on NH-24 from Sarai Kalekhan to Ghazipur-Noida Link Road; from Ghazipur light-point to Apsara Border on Road No. 56; on D.B. Gupta Road from Ajmeri Gate to Anand Parbat; on Ring Road from All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to Bhairon Road and from AIIMS to Mayapuri; on Aurobindo Marg from Aurobindo Chowk to Lado Sarai Terminal; on Mathura Road from HUDCO to Badarpur; on Outer Ring Road from IIT Crossing to Nehru Place; and ISBT to Kingsway Camp Chowk on Sham Nath Marg.
