KOCHI: As part of enhancing security measures ahead of the Independence Day, a ban will be enforced on the entry of visitors at the Cochin International Airport Limited at Nedumbassery from Wednesday onwards. The ban would be in force till August 20, A.C.K. Nair, airport director, said. Visitors’ entry into the domestic and international terminals and viewers’ gallery would be banned during the period. Only passengers and the authorised staff of various agencies would be permitted inside the airport, and even they would be subjected to intense frisking. The steps were being taken as per the directives issued by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security. Security checks would be tightened and baggage screening would be further strengthened. All cargo items would be thoroughly screened. Vehicles entering and leaving the airport premises would be closely monitored and the driving permits of the operators would be scrutinised. The Central Industrial Security Force had fully geared up to enforce the stringent security measures. Armed personnel of Quick Reaction Teams would keep round-the-clock vigil on the city side. Suspicious and unnatural behaviour would be closely monitored. The CISF along with the State police would intensify patrolling in the peripheral areas. Anti-sabotage checks would be carried out. Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad and dog squad would be kept ready.
