Six students arrested for mugging
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: The Hulimavu police on Monday arrested six pre-university students who had allegedly robbed students of many colleges in Jayanagar and Koramangala of gold chains and mobile phones at knife-point.
Three gold chains and five mobile phones, all worth Rs. 80,000, have been recovered from them.
The police gave their names as Ganesh, Manjunath, Naveen Kumar, Ravichandra, Sharath Kumar and Deepak Kumar, all aged 18 and residents of Bannerghatta Road and surrounding areas.
The police said the accused abstained from class and met near other colleges. When they spotted any student speaking into a mobile phone, they would mug him with a knife or razor and snatch the phone, they said.
In some cases, they picked fights with unwary students, accusing them of misbehaving with a girl known to them. The victims, thrown off track would then be robbed of their gold chains and mobile phones, the police said.
With the arrest of the gang, seven cases reported from near colleges in Jayanagar, Koramangala, BTM Layout and Tilaknagar have been solved, Assistant Commissioner of Police (MICO Layout) M.N.B. Rajendra Prasad said.
