Water let into canals

METTUR: Water was let into the east and west Canals of the Stanley reservoir on Wednesday to irrigate 45,000 acres in Salem, Namakkal and Erode districts. Collector N. Mathivanan accompanied Revenue and officials from Public Works Department (PWD) opened the sluices of the dam for the canal irrigation. This was the 48th time in the reservoir’s history that water was let into these canals. Water would be kept released in staggering phases in these canals till December 15.
