Science Conference from tomorrow

It will discuss issues concerning research and education in 25 sessions


Bidar: Karnataka Rajya Vigyan Parishat and the Government will organise the ninth State-level Science Conference in Bidar from Friday. This year’s theme is “Science Education and Value Reforms”.

Scientists and science teachers will discuss the issues concerning science research and education. “We will also have brainstorming sessions about why today’s youth are losing interest in basic sciences,” conference reception committee working president Basavraj Patil Ashtur told presspersons in Bidar on Wednesday.

He said experts would interact with delegates in 25 sessions. There will be workshops for science and mathematics teachers. “We will organise painting exhibition, science exhibition and some cultural programmes,” Dr. Ashtur said. Rationalist Narendra Nayak will reveal secrets of magic, he said.

“It is the first time we are having a State-level Science Conference in Bidar,” said reception committee honorary president Channabasappa Halahalli. He said a large number of school and college students would attend the conference.

Science and Technology Minister Ramachandra Gowda will inaugurate the conference on the BVB College grounds. Agriculture Minister Bandeppa Kashempur, former Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University M.I. Savadatti, Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society president Basavaraj Bheemalli, former MP Basavaraj Patil Sedam and Deputy Commissioner Munish Moudgil will be present.

Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa will release the souvenir on Saturday. NCERT Joint Director G. Ravindra will deliver the valedictory lecture, Mr. Halahalli said.

Discussion sessions will be held on subjects such as creative teaching of science and reforms of science education at the high school level, vigyan parishat state treasurer Baburao Dani said.
