‘Open BangaloreOne-type centres in districts’

BANGALORE: A Subordinate Legislation Committee of the State Legislature on E-governance has recommended to the Government to open BangaloreOne type centres, in all district headquarters for the benefit of the public.

Under one roof, 20 BangaloreOne centres have been offering services of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, Bangalore Electricity Supply Company, BSNL, Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board, City Police, Regional Passport Office, Commercial Taxes Department, Stamps and Registration and Regional Transport Offices.

A nine-page report tabled in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday stated that the E-Governance Department had been implementing 10 projects in the State.

The panel, headed by Yogish Bhat (BJP), recommended to the Government to initiate steps to introduce computerisation in the administration of local bodies. The report called for entrusting e-governance responsibilities to some officials in each department to post update information on sanction of funds and implementation of schemes.

Under the World Bank aid, the Public Works Department had established a “Road Information System”. But due to some reasons, the project had stopped functioning, it noted.

It suggested to all departments to regularly post on their websites all rules and regulations, circulars, orders without fail.

To create awareness among the public about the availability of e-governance facility, it suggested each department to issue advertisements in newspapers.

For successful implementation of the e-governance in the State, it suggested to the Government to hold a training programme for elected representatives from gram panchayats to the Legislative Assembly.
