BANGALORE: Taking note of the uncertainty over transfer of power, the Bharatiya Janata Party central unit is learnt to have directed the frontline leaders of the State unit to maintain a low profile and not get provoked or issue controversial political statements till October 3, the deadline for transfer of power from the Janata Dal (S). The BJP central leaders held a discussion with the State party leaders B.S. Yediyurappa and D.V. Sadananda Gowda in Delhi on Tuesday. During the discussion, the central leadership is learnt to have said that it will decide the political moves to be adopted by the party if the power was not transferred to it. But the party State leaders should observe restraint till October 3. At the same time, the central leadership made it clear that it was particular about opening its account in South India for the first time by getting the Chief Minister’s post in Karnataka. It did not matter even if the duration of power was short. But it would be better for the party to open its account in south India, the central leaders noted. Sources in the party pointed out the central leaders mainly asked the State unit to adopt a wait-and-watch policy and not to enter into a debate on whether the transfer of power would take place or not. Instead, the State unit should concentrate on strengthening the party organisation during the run-up to the transfer of power. Advocating a cautious approach during the run-up to the deadline for transfer of power, the central leadership stressed the need for maintaining unity so that there was no room for creating confusion within the party at a crucial time of transfer of power.
