Mixed response to APMC bandh

Staff Correspondent

KOLAR: The indefinite Statewide strike by traders of the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) from Wednesday evoked mixed response in Kolar district with only foodgrain merchants taking part in the agitation.

Vegetable traders did not take part in the strike following a decision taken by District Chamber of Commerce.

The Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FKCCI) has called for the stir to oppose amendments to the APMC Act paving the way to throw open the agricultural marketing sector to multinational companies. Besides the APMC traders associations and labour organisations, many political parties and farmers’ outfits have declared their support to the movement.
