dated August 2, 1957: Indian in Fiji

Indians in Fiji do not suffer from any special political disabilities as compared to the indigenous Fijians, Prime Minister Nehru informed the Lok Sabha on July 31. As far as the Government were aware, there was no legal discrimination against Indians in Fiji except that they could not own land marked as “native land reserve” or the “crown land” without the approval of the local Government.
