Woman construction labourer killed, two others injured in wall collapse

TIRUCHI: A woman labourer was killed and two others injured when a building wall under construction in SIDCO Industrial Estate at Mathur, near here, collapsed on Wednesday.
While 50-year-old K. Periammal of Rasipuram in Pudukottai district died on the way to hospital, R. Annalakshmi and R. Pasupathy are undergoing treatment.
Caught under the debris
A group of labourers were filling sand between the first and second walls of the building for a private welding and testing unit when the second wall crumbled all of a sudden and the three labourers were caught under the debris.
The newly built wall collapsed owing to heavy rains on Tuesday, official and fire service sources said. The building was under construction for over five months.
The labourers were immediately rushed for treatment at Tiruchi.
A team of fire fighters, who rushed to the spot, used an earthmover to check if there more labourers under the debris. Mathur police are investigating the case.
