THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Cabinet on Wednesday decided to replace Special Officer K. Suresh Kumar and Inspector General of Police Rishi Raj Singh of the Munnar task force. The CPI had been demanding replacement of both the officials from the time they were deputed for eviction of encroachers and demolition of unauthorised buildings by Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan. Briefing press persons on the Cabinet decisions, the Chief Minister said that task force would resume work from August 10. The new leaders of the task force would be named next week. Mr. Suresh Kumar was being replaced as he was on sick leave for a month. Fee revision
Mr. Achuthanandan said that an ordinance would be brought to amend the provision in the Kerala Professional Colleges Act about fee regulatory committee. The committee, now headed by Justice P.A. Mohammed, would be empowered to revise the fee from time to time instead of once in three years. He reiterated that the pastoral letters issued by Catholic dioceses in Kerala was the result of a misunderstanding. They were peeved by the interference by local self-governments in management of schools. However, it was the previous Government which had devolved the powers to local self-governments. The Government was willing to discuss and settle their concerns, he added. He said that the Cabinet had approved the proposal for modernisation of Walayar check- post. A computer network would facilitate daily reporting of the collections to the State headquarters. This would help to eliminate corruption. The present staff would be replaced. Cultural complex
The Tagore theatre in Thiruvananthapuram would be rebuilt as a film festival-cum- cultural complex. The Theeravanam project would be merged with the Haritavaman project and implemented through special societies formed for the purpose. Usha Titus would be appointed as Special Secretary (Health).
