Jal Board offers online connections

ID number will help track applications

System will help weed out touts

NEW DELHI: Making the process of seeking an authorised water connection less daunting, the Delhi Jal Board has made provisions for consumers to apply online. Bridging the gap between the water utility and the consumers, the online application process will save applicants from making numerous trips to the Jal Board offices, and also hasten the process of seeking a connection by helping keep tabs on the status of the application.

“We are aware of the problems that consumers face to get a water connection. We have, therefore, started the online application process wherein consumers will have to log on to our website and apply online. On filling the form they will be provided a computer-generated ID number, which will help them track their application,” said S.B. Shashank, Director (Revenue) of the Delhi Jal Board. The online application will simplify the process of seeking a connection as consumers will have to go to the Jal Board office only to furnish the identity and residence proofs.

“After applying online, consumers can keep track of their application. The onus of delivering on time and without any glitches will lie with the department,” Mr. Shashank said. The water utility is hopeful that the revised application process will also help in weeding out touts and middlemen who encourage people to opt for illegal connections.

“Sometimes when the applicants do not receive the connection on time or are denied a connection due to some irregularities in their application, touts help them get illegal connections. The online system will wean people away from such unauthorised procedures and opt for legal connections,” said a senior Jal Board official.
