Top Pakistani Hizb militant shot dead

JAMMU: A top Pakistani militant of the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen was on Wednesday shot dead in a joint operation by the Army and the police in Jammu and Kashmir.

Abid Hussain Basra, a self-styled Divisional Commander of the outfit who had crossed over into the State from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir in May 1997, was gunned down by the police and troops of the 10 Rashtriya Rifles at Nagna Nallah in Doda district, Doda Senior Superintendent of Police Manohar Singh said.

Basra, who hailed from Punjab province of Pakistan, had been involved in militancy for the last ten years in the districts of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban. — PTI
