NEW DELHI: Raids conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation at residential premises of a builder allegedly involved in fraudulent allotment of plots in the name of slum dwellers here in the Capital have led to the seizure of nearly 50 vehicles. The raids were mounted following complaints that builder Ashok Malhotra, a resident of Mukherjee Nagar here, had been involved in “fraudulent land deals”. The accused runs a canteen at Old Secretariat and at Vikas Sadan that houses offices of the Delhi Development Authority. During the raids -- which began two days ago and were still continuing on Wednesday night -- the CBI sleuths claimed to have come across documents pertaining to a large number of plots. They also claimed to have found papers indicating that the builder was operating several bank accounts and owned three bungalows. The CBI team impounded several luxury cars purportedly belonging to the builder. Most of the vehicles bore VIP registration numbers. The CBI suspects that the builder along with some DDA officials got allotment slips issued in fictitious names by taking advantage of the relocation scheme announced by the Delhi Government for slum dwellers. They allegedly got land allotted against those slips. The CBI reportedly has registered three cases pertaining to criminal conspiracy, corruption and forgery. On Wednesday night the investigating agency was looking for the contractor.
