THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Muslim League leader and former Education Minister E.T. Muhammad Basheer has alleged that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) Government was squandering all the gains of the State in spheres like education, health and cooperative sector. Mr. Basheer made these observations while participating in the discussion series on ‘Contemporary politics of Kerala’ organised by the Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ) here on Wednesday as a prelude to the ensuing State conference of the Union. Strongly criticising the attack of the CPI (M) leaders against the media and the judiciary, Mr. Basheer said the language that they used against these two pillars of democracy was atrocious. He alleged that the LDF was trying to convert universities into mere ‘political cells’. The Left leaders who spoke profusely about autonomy of universities earlier are now filling up all the decision-making bodies of those academic institutions with their cadres, he alleged. Confusion in education
“The Government has messed up the self-financing college sector through impractical moves. Utter confusion prevails in the education sector, right from the school level,” Mr. Basheer said. He said his party welcomed the exoneration of Abdul Nasir Maudany in the Coimbatore blast case. He said Mr. Maudany’s release was unlikely to have an impact on the traditional Muslim League vote base in the State.
