Acute shortage of specialists

KARAIKAL: Acute shortage of specialists in several disciplines is posing problem in all Government hospitals in the Union Territory, said leader of Opposition A.M.H. Nazeem here on Monday.

Mr. Nazeem, also a former Health Minister, told The Hindu that there was a large number of vacancies of specialists due to superannuation, voluntary retirement, resignation, etc.

He pointed out that the contract specialists did not fulfil the responsibilities of regular specialists. He pointed out that the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issued an order in November last year enhancing the superannuation age of specialist doctors from 60 to 62 years.

Age limit

The Puducherry Government should automatically extend the age limit for specialist doctors with immediate effect.
