BANGALORE: The Central Crime Branch police on Wednesday arrested Youth Congress leader and former Chairman of Karnataka Electronics Development Corporation Ltd. Joseph Stalin on charge of attempt to extortion in connection with a real estate deal. According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Gopal B. Hosur, Mr. Stalin allegedly threatened V. Laxminarayan, managing director of Nirmal Shelters in connection with the land purchased in Anekal. Mr. Stalin had threatened to harm Mr. Laxminarayan by using thugs and demanded money. Mr. Laxminarayan had filed a complaint. Mr. Stalin and six other persons allegedly came to the office of Nirmal Shelters in Basavanagudi on Wednesday. On a tip off, the police team arrested Stalin and six others, Mr. Hosur said. According to police, it all started with Nirmal Shelters realising that the land that it had purchased had earlier been sold to another developer, who had gone ahead to allot sites to 150 people. Nirmal Shelters came forward to pay compensation to 150 people. A partner of the other developer, who was not happy with the arrangement and approached Mr. Stalin, the police said.
