Ban on book: samiti seeks Governor’s intervention

Staff Correspondent

GADAG: The Abhivyakti Swatantrya Rakshana Samiti, Gadag, has urged Governor T.N. Chaturvedi to declare the decision of the State Government to ban the book “Anudeva Horaganavanu” written by Banjagere Jayaprakash as null and void and thereby protect the freedom of expression.

In a letter to the Governor, Venkateshaiah, Basavaraj Sulibhavi, M.N. Kambale, Shekhar Ladwa and others have urged the Governor to intervene in order to uphold the democratic and constitutional principles.

Through the book, the writer had made an attempt to throw light on the origin of twelfth century social reformer Basaveshwara and had made it clear that still lot of research work was still required to be done to finally arrive at the conclusion, they said.

But instead of taking up further research in this regard, some vested interests instigated the Lingayat community, they alleged.
