New entity likely to execute monorail

Govind D. Belgaumkar

BANGALORE: The Government is likely to constitute a new entity to plan and execute monorail network in Bangalore city. The Government is said to be considering the request in this direction made by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) Ltd. which has the responsibility of executing both monorail and metro rail networks.

According to sources, the BMRC has pleaded that it was burdened with the metro work and that it could hardly give the kind of attention monorail project requires. The creation of a new entity would expedite the implementation of monorail, it suggested. Even the preparatory stage of execution of monorail involves paper work, survey and detailed plan preparation involving several agencies besides choosing the right kind of technology suitable for the city.

The Government handed over the monorail project to BMRC to ensure that there is no coordination problem considering that both were rail-based transport networks.
