Tidal waves lash Vizag shore

Nivedita Ganguly

VISAKHAPATNAM: The high tidal waves that lashed the coast on Thursday were a grim reminder of the fact that there is every danger of the mighty waves finding their way onto the roads in the city if beach erosion goes unchecked. From the early hours of the day, high waves crept onto the beach almost touching the walls of the footpath opposite the Naval Coastal Battery (NCB).

Along the Ramakrishna Beach, the waves came more than halfway towards the road. Experts pointed out that the wave action on the coast was a result of strong winds and high tide conditions. Though scientists say that the process is gradual, there is no denying the fact that Vizag beach is facing the threat of erosion.
