dated August 3, 1957: Bihar rivers in spate

Flood waters of the Kosi and its tributaries and other smaller rivers of north Bihar have swept across an area of over 300 square miles in the districts of Darbhanga and Saharsa, affecting a population of about three and a half lakhs, according to reports received in Patna. The Kosi’s peak flood discharge of the season so far was recorded at Barahakshetra on July 31.
