Pramila Nesargi to file case

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: Karnataka Women’s Commission Chairperson Pramila Nesargi has said that she will file a defamation case against member of the National Commission for Women, Nirmala Venkatesh.

Speaking to The Hindu from New Delhi, Ms. Nesargi said that no notice had been served on her from the National Commission for Women, as had been claimed by Ms. Venkatesh on her recent visit to the State.

Ms. Venkatesh had said that the State women’s commission had no powers to hear the case of nurse Jayalakshmi against BJP MLA Renukacharya as it was pending before the National Commission for Women. She had accused Ms. Nesargi of “unnecessarily interfering” in the case and had said that the national commission had served her a notice.

Ms. Nesargi said that she had attended a meeting of the national commission on Thursday where she was told that no such notice had been served. She had dropped the Jayalakshmi case once the National Commission for Women took it up.
