Milli Council condemns killing of hostages

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The All-India Milli Council, an umbrella body of several Indian Muslim organisations, has expressed grief and shock over the killing of innocent South Koreans in Afghanistan.

(Two of the 23 South Koreans, who were taken hostage by the Taliban, were killed recently.)

In a press release here on Thursday, council general secretary Mohammad Manzoor Alam expressed disappointment over the turn of events in that war-ravaged country. He said there was no place for ideas such as “collateral damage” in Islam which respected the sanctity of freedom, property, and life of non-combatants.

Workers were basically guests of Islamic societies and not spies, he said. They were not invaders and hence taking them hostage was not justifiable under the Islamic laws. Their murder was absolutely unacceptable, Dr. Alam said.
