KSCA President’s XI beats Air-India

Bangalore: KSCA President’s XI defeated Air-India by 18 runs in a KSCA all-India invitation tournament match that concluded at the NRA Palace Ground here on Thursday.

Chasing 204 on the second and final day, Air-India was cruising at 111 for two when three wickets fell in succession at the same score to lend hope to the hosts. However, Praveen Kumar’s (38) lusty strikes over the ropes seemed to put Air-India back on track before seamer Aravind crashed one into his stumps to prise open the lower order.

Later, Aravind lured Larson D’Costa into a flick down the leg-side which wicket-keeper Rajshekar Shanbal caught, diving to his right. The rest just caved in as Air India was bowled out for 186 in 66.1 overs and immediately the rains started.

For the host, left-arm spinner Abrar Kazi excelled grabbing four wickets, including the scalp of well-set opener Dheeraj Jadhav (63) with a peach that sneaked in and disturbed the stumps.

KSCA President’s XI gained two points for this win.

In another match at the IAF Ground, Chemplast cruised to a seven-wicket victory over Baroda CA. Chasing 166, Chemplast scored 169 for three in 55.3 overs with Subramania Siva (89 not out, 169b, 10x4) and Hemant Kumar (42) anchoring the chase.

The scores: KSCA President’s XI 204 in 87.4 overs bt Air India 186 in 66.1 overs (Dheeraj Jadhav 63, Abrar Kazi four for 37).

Baroda CA 166 in 57.4 overs lost to Chemplast 169 for three in 55.3 overs (Subramania Siva 89 n.o., Hemant Kumar 42).

Satwik scalps five

Satwik’s five-wicket haul helped Vijaya HS defeat St. Xavier’s HS by 55 runs in a Boost Cup under-17 tournament match here on Thursday. Vijaya HS scored 168 for six in 25 overs and bowled out St. Xavier’s HS for 113 in 22.2 overs.

The scores: Vijaya HS 168 for six in 25 overs (Ashwin 50) bt St. Xavier’s HS 113 in 22.2 overs (Satwik five for 17).

Delhi Public School (South) 80 for nine in 15 overs lost to Army Public School 81 for seven in 15 overs.

Seshadripuram HS 152 for six in 30 overs (Ram Prasad 47) bt Clarence Public School 126 in 26.1 overs.

St. Mira’s HS 80 in 22.4 overs (Rahul four for 21) lost to Shantiniketan School 82 for no loss in 8.2 overs (Sachin 48 n.o.).

Anup is top seed

M.D. Anup Kiran heads the seedings list in both the men’s singles and boys’ under-19 singles in the Vijaya Nagar Club’s State-ranking badminton tournament which gets underway at the club courts here on Friday. The finals will be played on Sunday.

The tournament has attracted 248 entries in 11 events and Mr. C. Chikanna, President, Vijaya Nagar Club, will inaugurate it at 9 a.m.

Bishop Cotton’s girls triumph

Bishop Cotton’s Girls High School ‘A’ bagged the Tanvi Rao memorial inter-school hockey tournament for girls (under-10th Standard) with a 2-0 victory over St Euphrasia’s ‘A’ here on Thursday. Tenzin Bhutti (first & 10th) scored both the goals for Bishop Cotton’s.

In the boys’ final for the Allan MacBride Memorial trophy, St. Joseph’s Indian Middle School beat St John’s High School 2-0 via the tie-breaker. M.M. Kariappa and T.D. Abhishek were the only successful scorers in the tie-breaker while all other pushes were stopped.

Special prizes: Girls: Best half-backs: Sneha of Bishop Cotton’s ‘A’ and Jasmin of St. Euphrasia’s ‘A’; Best Forward: Mahira of Bishop Cottton’s ‘A’. Amit in last four

Amit Bhushan defeated Ajay Bhushan 74-84, 80-52, 76-21, 58-95, 65-57 in a B.S. Sampath memorial handicap snooker tournament quarterfinal at the KSBA Hall here on Thursday.

Big win for Germanite’s

Germanite’s Hockey Club scored a thumping 7-2 victory over Young Stars Hockey Club in the State ‘C’ division league tournament here on Thursday. Kuttappa scored in the 5th, 47th, 52nd & 54th minutes including a hat-trick. Vivian (4th), Kevin (32nd) and Yogesh (8th) contributed to the winner’s tally. Vishwa Kumar (44th) and Hanumanthappa (50th) scored for the losing side.

In another match, Bagalkot Hockey Club beat Leo Hockey Club 5-3. Santosh (19th & 53rd) logged a double while Amrish Chattri (10th), Muthu Mandagi (14th) and Basvaraj (42nd) slotted one each for Bagalkot HC.

Sandeep (17th), Sujith Alwyn (41st) and Prasanna (59th) scored once each to keep the challenge up for the loser.

Football tournament

The Chief Justice Hombegowda Memorial Gold Cup inter-collegiate football tournament, conducted jointly by the Department of Physical Education, University of Mysore and P. Nagaraj, Governing Council Member, KSFA, will be held at the University football grounds, Mysore from August 10 to 14.

Entries can be sent to the Convenor, Chamundi Zone, Mysore, before August 6.

Martial arts meet

Seibudo-Kai Karate Do Training School will conduct an all-India martial arts meet on August 11 and 12 at the Chamaraja Kalyana Mandira, South End Circle, Bangalore.

It includes kata and kumite (fighting) events, irrespective of styles.
