Minister warns moneylenders
Bangalore: Home Minister M.P. Prakash on Thursday said those who were fleecing people by charging exorbitant interest on loans would face criminal action. An inquiry would be ordered into the source of their funds.
Replying to H. Vishwanath during zero hour, the Minister said Superintendents of Police in all districts would be instructed to investigate how moneylenders collect cheques for amounts ranging from Rs. 10 lakh to Rs. 20 lakh under the Negotiable Instruments Act. Echoing the feelings of the member, Mr. Prakash said that charging exorbitant interest could not be tolerated. He lauded the Hubli Police Commissioner for taking action against moneylenders. He said that people should make use of the various laws enacted to curb the illegal activity.
