CHENNAI: Police arrested four men on charges of cheating and forgery after they were found to have allegedly submitted fake mark statements to pursue a nursing programme. Following a complaint from Joint Director Higher Education, the Central Crime Branch police registered a case against 15 students. According to the complaint, verification of the plus two mark sheets submitted by the students who wanted to take up nursing course found them to be forged. After investigation, police arrested Abraham (36) and Satyanesan (19) of Sathuvachari and Satish (22) and Saravanan (19) of Thottapalayam in Vellore district. Police said they had collected Rs 75,000 each from 12 students in their locality and handed them over to an employee in Government Hospital Chennai who is suspected to be instrumental in creating fake mark statements. A hunt is on to nab other accused, a senior officer investigating the case said. All the four arrested were produced before a city court which remanded them to judicial custody, a police press release said.
