Infiltration bid foiled in Poonch
Jammu: Thwarting an infiltration bid, the Army on Thursday shot dead two militants near the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said.
Thermal imagers picked up the movement of seven to eight militants from across the border in Kala Top (Havai post) in the Salotri belt of Poonch district in the wee hours of the day, the sources said. Militants, who had entered deep inside the Indian territory and were challenged by troops to surrender, fired on troops guarding the LoC, they said adding that in the gun battle that followed two militants were killed.
The slain militants belonged to Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit.
Earlier, Captain Abhinav Handa of 9 Maratha Light Infantry battalion, while briefing reporters about the three-day-long encounter, said the fire fight was prolonged because the infiltrators had taken shelter in a cave. — PTI
