KSRTC introduces ‘Sheetal’ service

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Transport Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy on Wednesday launched the services of “Sheetal” – the low cost air-conditioned bus service – of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) here.

The facility, aimed at attracting common travellers to travel in comfort, was in operation on a pilot basis between Bangalore and Mysore for the last three months.

The air-conditioned coaches, akin to “Karnataka Sarige” coaches, could seat 60 passengers and the fare between the two cities is fixed at Rs. 100.

These buses did not have any frills like in Rajahamsa or Airavatha buses.

On the occasion, the Minister inducted 25 new jeeps for KSRTC’s line-checking squad.

Speaking after launching the new vehicles on the occasion of KSRTC celebrating its 46th foundation day, Mr. Cheluvarayaswamy announced that around 25,000 employees of the corporation would get an ex gratia of Rs. 2,500 each for 2005-06.

The corporation has set apart Rs. 6.21 crore for this purpose, he added.

KSRTC managing director A.P. Joshi and other senior officials were present.
