Retired army officer robbed of Rs. 1 lakh

He lost the money within minutes after drawing it from bank

BANGALORE: Two men on a motorcycle snatched a bag containing Rs. 1 lakh in cash from a retired army officer in Ulsoor police station limits on Thursday.

The police said that around 11.30 a.m., Prabhakar of Hoysala Nagar came out of State Bank of India’s branch in Cambridge Layout after withdrawing the money.

He had just walked a few metres when the riders from behind and snatched the cash bag. The Ulsoor police registered a case. In another incident, two motorcycle-borne men snatched a bag containing Rs. 10,000 cash, three mobile phones and credit and debit cards from a woman in Fraser Town police station limits on Wednesday night. The police said the two snatched the bag from Yasmeen Joseph, a software company employee while she was walking on Spencer’s Road. On a complaint by Yasmeen, the Fraser Town police have registered a case.

Burglary attempt

Thieves broke into a post office on Mysore Road on Wednesday night and attempted to loot cash from a steel chest. The police said the burglars had entered the post office at Pantharpalya by breaking open the rolling shutters.

The incident came to light when Sub-Postmaster Kalpana came to work on Thursday morning. On a complaint by her, the Byatarayanapura police have registered a case.

Recovered

The J.P. Nagar police have arrested a man from Kolar district, who was associated with the notorious Dandupalya gang, on charges of burglary and recovered from him gold ornaments and silver articles estimated at Rs. 6.50 lakh. The police said Prakash alias Gunda (28) of Kurubarahalli in Kolar district had burgled four houses in J.P. Nagar, Hanumanthanagar and Vidyaranyapura police station limits. He was arrested and jailed for committing burglaries in K.R. Puram, Wilson Garden, Yeshwanthapur and Bharathinagar, they said.

During interrogation, it came to light that Prakash had close contacts with the Dandupalya gang, which had committed several murders, dacoities and burglaries across the State, the police said.
