CBI urged to make public the names of Congress leaders involved “Cases should be filed against them and they should be jailed”
NEW DELHI: Accusing the Congress leaders in Delhi of involvement in large-scale grabbing of plots allotted to slum dwellers, as exposed by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the Ashok Malhotra case, Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party Harsh Vardhan on Thursday sought a probe into the scam by a retired Supreme Court judge and dismissal of the Sheila Dikshit Government. He also demanded an investigation into the role of the Union Ministry of Urban Development into the entire episode. Addressing a press conference, Dr. Vardhan also urged the CBI to make public the names of those senior Congress leaders who have been involved in the scam. “Cases should be filed against them and they should be sent to jail,” he demanded. Commenting on the meteoric rise of Ashok Malhotra, who started off as a three-wheeler driver and amassed huge wealth in a matter of years, Dr. Vardhan said his growth in this fashion could not have been possible without the patronage of the Delhi Government and senior party functionaries both within and outside the Government. Dr. Vardhan charged that attempts were being made to protect senior Congress leaders involved in the multi-crore scam. Seeking an independent probe, he said the CBI should also make public details of the entries in the diary recovered by it in the raid at Ashok Malhotra’s house. Dr. Vardhan also demanded to know how many VIP or fancy numbers for these cars were allotted on the recommendations of the office of the Chief Minister and the Transport Minister. Leader of the Opposition in Delhi Assembly Jagdish Mukhi termed the case a “glaring example of the corruption prevailing in the Congress Government at every level”.
