BIJAPUR: Trading in horticulture produce came to a halt on Friday as those dealing with vegetables and fruits joined the APMC bandh being observed by commission agents and merchants. The trading fraternity had been opposing the amendment to APMC Act that allowed multinational companies to purchase agricultural produce from farmers directly. Some loads of fruits and vegetables arrived at the market yard but the commission agents did not allow unloading. Farmers return
As a result, farmers were forced to take back their produce. Some of them chose to park loaded vehicles hoping that the strike might end soon. According to Fruit and Vegetables Traders Association president Abubkar Bagwan, the strike by the association members would continue at least for the next two days. Transaction continued to be hit at other centres such as Bagalkot, Sindagi, Indi, Muddebihal, Talikot, Basavanabagewadi, Jamkhandi, Mudhol, Mahalingpur, Rabkavi-Banahatti, Hungund, Ilkal, Bilagi and Badami.
