DPR puts project cost at some Rs. 1.92 crores It will come up with JNNURM funds
BHUBANESWAR: Concrete dwelling units, all-weather road, streetlights, children parks and community hall give an impression of a top construction company coming out with a housing scheme at a posh locality. But all this is going to be made available for those living in Nayapalli Sabar Sahi, a small slum in the capital city. If everything goes smoothly, a total 73 households, mostly tribals, of the slum will have an altogether different life to lead. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) containing comprehensive proposals for the first slum development in an extent of 17.51 acres land in the capital city is ready. The project cost for developing the slum has been put at Rs. 1.92 crores. “We have already submitted the DPR to the government. The report will be thoroughly analysed by the State-level steering committee headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik,” BMC Commissioner Aparajita Sarangi said on Friday. Once the committee cleared the DPR, it would be sent to the Centre for availing of funds under the JNNURM, Ms. Sarangi said. Salient features
As per the DPR, the dwelling units (DUs) are proposed to cover areas of 25 square metres approximately along with provisions for two rooms, kitchen and sanitary facility. Out of 73 DUs, 49 are to be provided as single storied units, 12 double storied and the balance 12 double storied (three units). Storm water will be disposed of to the existing drain available by the side of the existing road. Good road
The BMC, which is the implementing agency, also proposes to provide strong, durable and maintenance-free road that is 2.4 metres wide, which will allow easy movement of slum dwellers and light vehicles in the slum. Under the plan, the BMC also proposes to do away with the community toilets as every DU will have a toilet facility. Moreover, a community centre having an area of 1,500 square feet has been proposed along with garden and children park.
