NEW DELHI: President Pratibha Patil has congratulated P. Sainath, Rural Affairs Editor of The Hindu, on being awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award 2007 in the category “Journalism, Literature and Creative Communicati on Arts.” In a message to Mr. Sainath, the President said: “Please accept my heartiest congratulations on your being awarded the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award. The award becomes more important as it has been given in recognition of your work in the field of rural reporting and to highlight the problems of poverty and illiteracy. Your writings on water, food, hunger and other matters of societal interests are well known.”
