Corrections and clarifications

* * The name of the Kerala-based People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader is Abdul Nasir Maudany and not Abdul Nasser Maudhany, as has been spelt in various reports that appeared in The Hindu on August 2 a nd August 3, 2007.

* * A sentence in an article “Will MRTS elevate travel experience?” (Op-Ed, August 3, 2007) was: “While the Delhi metro with its underground sections, modern facilities and new generation coaches enjoys high visibility, Chennai’s Beach-Velachery MRTS will become, upon its formal commissioning, a unique elevated suburban railway with a potential capacity of 4,25,000 trips a day.” The reference is to 4,25,000 passenger trips, as in paragraph four.

* * A sentence in a report “Sharif moves apex court for return to Pakistan” (“International” page, August 3, 2007) was: “The Sharif family left Pakistan for Saudi Arabia in December 2004, a year aft er Mr. Sharif’s ouster by Gen. Musharraf in a coup.” It should have been December 2000.

* * A report “Engineering graduates urged to acquire additional skills”, and the caption of the accompanying photograph (Tamil Nadu, July 29, 2007), said that Mr. Venu Srinivasan, Chairman and Managing Director, TVS Motor Company, was conferred the Doctor of Letters (honoris causa) at the 21st convocation of Shanmugha Arts Science Technology and Research Academy (SASTRA) University. Mr. Srinivasan was conferred the degree of Doctor of Science (honoris causa).
