Bombay High Court notice to 4 Goa MLAs
Special Correspondent
PANAJI: The Bombay High Court Bench here on Friday issued notice to four MLAs acting on five petitions challenging their recent election to the Assembly.
Notice returnable on August 24
The notice is returnable on August 24. The petitions, filed on July 20, have gained significance in view of the political crisis.
The four MLAs are Finance Minister Dayanand Narvekar (Congress), Minister for Health Vishwajit Rane (Independent), the former Minister, Atanasio Monserrate (United Goans Democratic Party) and Anil Salgaoncar (Independent).
The petition against Mr. Monserrate has been filed by his immediate rival and defeated candidate challenging his nominations by two parties — the Congress and the UGDP — one of which was upheld by the returning officer.
Defeated candidates
The other petitions have been filed by the defeated candidates in their respective constituencies challenging the election expenses and accounts submitted by the respondents before the Election Commission.
