MADURAI: The oratorical competition on ‘Tirukkural,’ conducted recently at the zonal level in Madurai and Tirunelveli by Shriram Ilakkiya Kazhagam, literary wing of the Shriram Group, attracted hundreds of students. The competitions were held at junior (for students of VI, VII and VIII standard), senior (IX and X standard), super senior (higher secondary) and college levels. In Madurai zone, E. Nachal of Sri Kalaivani Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Karaikudi; E. Vishnu Priya of St. Joseph’s Girls Higher Secondary School, Dindigul; S. Sree Lakshmi of Alagappa Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Karaikudi; and M. Jayamkondan of Tamil Nadu Open University won prizes at the junior, senior, super senior and college levels. In Tirunelveli zone, P. Srinath of Government Higher Secondary School, Munsirai, Kanyakumari; S. Gandhi Gnana Devi of Little Flower Matriculation School, Tirunelveli; M. Mani of Scofter Higher Secondary School, Tirunelveli; and P. Gomathi of Rani Anna Government Women’s College, Gandhi Nagar, emerged victorious. Madurai zone attracted 193 participants and Tirunelveli 118. In Madurai, the competitions were held at Madura College and in Tirunelveli at Scofter Higher Secondary School. The winners will take part in the finals to be held in Chennai on August 25.
