Jewellery stolen by con women

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: A woman in Thoraipakkam was allegedly cheated by four gypsies of 30 sovereigns of jewellery on Friday.

Uma Maheswari was cleaning her home when four women came to her house seeking food, police said.

One of the women was pregnant. Maheswari gave them some food. After having the food, one of them asked for a bucket of water which was also provided by Ms. Maheswari.

Later, when she resumed her cleaning work, Maheswari found some of her gold earrings on the floor. On opening the almirah, she found the jewellery box missing.

Maheswari then called her husband M. Kumar, a software employee, who filed a complaint with the police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Adyar) Seshasai visited the crime scene. Mr. Seshasai told The Hindu, “We are on the look out for the gypsies whose identity is known. We hope to solve the case soon.”

A case of cheating and theft has been registered, he added.
