KATHMANDU: Nepal has adopted a new national anthem after it revoked the earlier one following the popular uprising against the monarchy in April last year. Interim Parliament Speaker Subas Nembang made public the new anthem at a function on Friday. The new anthem was written by a young poet, Byakul Maila, and set to music by the veteran musician, Amber Gurang. The previous national anthem was adopted in 1899. The anthem was revoked by Parliament last year as it was a song composed in praise of the King. The new national anthem is more about the people, history, geography and the diverse culture of Nepal. PTI reports: Matrika Yadav, a Maoist Minister in Nepal Cabibet, who wanted to step down citing lack of cooperation from colleagues in dealing with problems faced by the Terai people, on Friday withdrew his resignation after consultations with his party supremo Prachanda.
