Forged papers to be further examined by experts

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation has begun the process of scrutinising documents seized during the raids mounted as part of the crackdown on the “slum mafia” in the Capital.
With the raids now over, the CBI is meticulously screening the documents running into thousands. Papers suspected to have been forged would be further examined by experts. The signatures of various government officials on certain documents would also be verified.
A notice under Section 160 of the Code of Criminal Procedure has been served on the accused contractor, Ashok Malhotra, asking him to produce himself for questioning. “It is a routine procedure,” said a CBI official.
The agency has reportedly intimated the Transport Department and the Income-Tax Department about the vehicles, cash and jewellery found during the raids at the contractor’s residence.
The CBI also found Malhotra using dozens of mobile phones having their numbers in series.
The agency has questioned the DDA officials, including a retired official, who have been named as accused in the case. They were shown documents seized from their houses and offices and asked to explain.
