Thefts at three temples

KASARAGOD: Three temples at Manya, near Badiyadukka, were found broken into on Friday morning. The thieves took away the idol of Venkataramana temple and stole money from the cash offering box (‘bhandaram’), the police said. The idol is believed to be more than 400 years old. Thieves also broke into Chamundeswai temple, Kajala, two km from Venkataramana temple. They took away valuables and stole the cash offering box. They failed in their attempt to open the cash offering box at the neighbouring Vishnu Murthi temple. The theft was detected by the priests and devotees. — Staff Reporter
