6,402 persons fined for not wearing helmet

Kozhikode: The police penalised 6,402 persons in the city in July for violating the helmet rule. The fine collected crossed Rs. 2.8 lakh, City Police Commissioner Balram Kumar Upadhyay said here on Saturday.

He said a fine of Rs. 1,000 would be imposed on those driving recklessly and not wearing the headgear. Most of the two-wheeler riders were found to hang the helmets on the handle bar or keep it on the petrol tank.

Strict action would be taken against the driver and the passenger in the front seat of four-wheelers for not wearing seat belts, he said.
