Second road project for Kolli Hills soon: Minister

NAMAKKAL: The two-day ‘Valvil Ori’ festival concluded at Semmedu village in Kolli Hills on Friday with the State Government distributing welfare assistance to the beneficiaries, a majority of them tribals, to the tune of Rs 1.20 crore. The Forest Minister, N. Selvaraj, while distributing the assistance and free colour television sets to the beneficiaries pointed out that the Government would soon take up the second road project for the Kolli Hills at a cost of Rs. 11 crore.
The Minister pointed out that a sum of Rs 46 crore had been spent for the development of Kolli Hills so far.
The project will be completed within a year, he added. He hoped that this project once completed would enhance the tourism potential of the Hills further. Adi Dravidar Minister A. Tamilarasi pointed out that adequate funds had been allotted for the development of tribals in the Hills. She also declared open the new rest room constructed under the Tamil Nadu Afforestation Project at a cost of Rs 6.84 lakh.
Earlier, the festival was inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Social Justice Subbulakashmi Jegadeesan. She said that a cell tower would soon be erected atop the Hills for the benefit of farmers and traders in Kolli Hills.
Collector G. Sundaramurthy detailed various development works that had been taken in Kolli Hills.
A new boat service was also inaugurated at Kolli Hill Falls.
Senior officials and others participated in the function.
