NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Saturday launched another round of the pulse polio campaign in the city by administering anti-polio drops to a number of children at a function in Delhi Secretariat. With this go-ahead, the next phase of pulse polio immunisation programme is set to be held here on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Dikshit expressed satisfaction that no case of polio had been noticed in Delhi after November 2006.Stating that Delhi was on the threshold of becoming a polio-free State, Ms. Dikshit said: “However, we will have to intensify our efforts to further streamline our pulse polio immunisation programme. Being a pioneer in this programme, Delhi is regarded as a role model and it will continue to strive hard to eliminate polio.” Ms. Dikshit complimented officials of the Health Department for their efforts in overcoming the threat of polio in Delhi. State Health Minister Yoganand Shatri conveyed his gratitude to the Rotary Club and other NGOs for making the campaign a grand success in the city. He said 7,800 polio booths would be established across the city on Sunday. Workers of the Health Department will be deployed to ensure that maximum people reach the booths from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The stalls will be stationed at railway stations, Inter-State Bus Terminus, Appu Ghar, Metro railway stations, Millennium Park, Delhi Zoo and McDonald’s outlets.
