Kochi: The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Joint Action Council general convener K.V. Kumaran has urged the People’s Democratic Party chairman Abdul Nasir Maudany to come out with his stance on the issue of reservation for Dalit Muslims and Christians. At a press meet on Saturday, Mr. Kumaran, who is also chairman of the Social Democratic Party, said Mr. Maudany had said that his party proposed to work for the unity of Muslims and Dalits for installing people from socially backward communities at the centre of power. He said this statement was hollow. On third front
He said that as far as the State was concerned, Backward Class leaders already wielded power here. The formation of a third front proposed by Janadhipathya Samrakshana Samithy leader K.R. Gouri and supported by the PDP would only sabotage it. Areas of conflict
He said there were conflicts between Dalits and Muslims over certain issues. The recommendation for including Dalit Muslims and Christians in the list of Scheduled Castes was now pending before the Central Government. The implementation of the recommendation would badly affect the reservation now being enjoyed by the Scheduled Castes.
