HYDERABAD: Cloud-seeding operations over Telangana district have led to rain and increased movement and darkening of clouds, with indications becoming “very visible” over Ranga Reddy, Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda districts, according to the Centre for Atmospheric Sciences and Weather Modification Technologies of the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University here. A press release said eight flares were fired over Chevella and Vikarabad mandals in Ranga Reddy district, Narayanpet in Mahabubnagar and Chityal and Mallapur in Nalgonda on Saturday. These operations had their effect with rain in these areas. The intensity even moved to the southern parts of the Capital city including the airport region., officials claimed. The cloud movement and rain in these parts were on account of the cloud-seeding operations, the release added. 75 hours of flying
In all, 75 hours of flying was carried out for cloud-seeding in 12 districts with over 150 flares being burnt. This led to over 1,850 mm of rainfall, a development established by data evaluation, supported by chemical analysis reports on rain water samples given by the Rural Water Supply Laboratory in Anantapur. Officials in the district reported calcium concentration ranging from 12 to 36 mg per litre, a sure indicator of artificially-induced rain, the release said.
