BANGKOK: An army sergeant in charge of intelligence gathering was shot dead in Thailand’s insurgency-plagued southern province Pattani on Saturday morning, media here reported. Police said Sgt. Erawan Jeh-oh (45), was shot dead in front of a teashop in Muang district at 7:00 a.m. local time, according to a report by news network The Nation. Sgt. Erawan wan an intelligence officer of the Ingkhayuth Camp in Pattani. He was delivering foods to the shop when a motorcycle pillion rider shot him at his head. The two insurgents fled with Sgt. Erawan’s 11mm pistol, the report said. — Xinhua
