Sequel to sealing of 12 major nursing homes operating illegally in city
BERHAMPUR: With the administration sealing private clinics and nursing homes running without proper licence in the city, patients thronging the MKCG Medical College Hospital have increased manifold. Till date, 12 major nursing homes in the city have been sealed. Due to the threat of raids, many small gynaecological clinics in the city, called ladies clinics, have either downed their shutters or repainted their signboards. It is alleged that doctors of the medical college hospital are either running most of these private nursing homes and clinics or treating patients there. Officials involved in the raid on private nursing homes and clinics have also prepared a detailed report to be sent to the government on doctors of the MKCG Medical College, who, they believe, used to spend most of their time at these private nursing homes for initiating appropriate action. With these raids, the inflow of patients has increased at the medical college. In-charge superintendent of the medical college J.P. Behera says that the paediatric and gynaecology wards are almost filled. Many of those turning up at the outpatient wing allege that patients coming to the medical college used to be redirected through agents to private nursing homes where doctors from the college used to treat them. The rush at pathology clinic, especially the ultrasound unit, at the medical college is more as most of the illegally run ultrasound clinics in city have been seized.
