Scheme has not received the praise it deserves Six Ministers deliberate on publicity aspect
Strategic meet: Minister for Housing B. Satyanarayana at a meeting with his ministerial colleagues G. Chinna Reddy, Mohd. Shabbir Ali, K. Ramakrishna and Pinnamaneni Venkateswara Rao in Hyderabad on Saturday.
HYDERABAD: The Rajasekhara Reddy Government has decided to launch a publicity blitz to get the credit it thinks it deserves for launching and successfully implementing Indiramma, the massing housing scheme for the poor. The Government is of the view that in spite of a huge sum of money being spent on the scheme (Rs 5,000 crore) to achieve a “hutless Andhra Pradesh” by meeting the needs of every eligible houseless family, Indiramma has not yet received the appreciation it deserves, especially in urban areas where the implementation is sluggish. Complying with an instruction given by Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy at the recent Cabinet meeting, six Ministers deliberated on the publicity aspect of Indiramma at a three-hour meeting here on Saturday chaired by Housing Minister Botcha Satyanarayana. They resolved to undertake a Statewide campaign to take the message to the people and claim the rightful credit. The other Ministers present were P. Lakshmaiah (Major Irrigation), K. Ramakrishna (Commercial Taxes), Mohd Ali Shabbir (Energy), P. Venkateswara Rao (Rural Water Supply), and G. Chinna Reddy (Rural Development). K. V. P. Ramachandra Rao, Chief Minister’s political advisor, was also present. Sources said the meeting had finalised August 15 tentatively for launching the second phase of Indiramma. Speaking to reporters later, Mr Satyanarayana said an all-party meeting would be convened to seek suggestions to rectify possible shortcomings in the implementation of the scheme. It also resolved to allow a “bridge loan” of Rs 10,000 at nominal interest on all categories of houses under the scheme .
